KOKOMO, Ind. -- A man is facing criminal charges following a crash that caused more than $5,000 damage to city property, court records show.

Jeremy Marner, 37, is charged with Operating While Intoxicated Endangering a Person, Operating While Intoxicated, and Neglect of a Dependent.

The crash happened just after 7:30 p.m. Sunday evening at North Apperson Way and East Madison Street, damaging a fence, flower pot, light pole and bush.

The driver’s blood alcohol level was .205 percent, according to Kokomo Police Major Brian Seldon.

“Alcohol and driving left of center are contributing circumstances to the accident,” said Seldon. “A female passenger complained of neck and head pain and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.  A juvenile passenger complained of some pain but was not taken to the hospital.”

Records show Marner is still incarcerated at the Howard County Jail.

Several citizens have contacted Call 6 Investigates with concerns about the flower pots and medians creating poor visibility for drivers.

Records show this is not the first time drivers have damaged city property on Apperson Way:

  • In December 2014, a driver crashed into a flower pot and fence after a driver made an abrupt U-turn in front of him.
  • On March 6, 2015, a driver hit a planter, landscaping and fencing on Apperson Way because his windshield had fogged up.
  • On December 15, 2016, a driver dropped her purse and when she leaned to get it, she hit a flower pot, fence and a small tree.
  • On January 12, 2017, a driver was having trouble seeing in the rain, and crashed into metal fencing in the median.

Call 6 Investigates has contacted the city and police to see if any additional crashes have happened between January and December 2017, and whether the city plans to make any modifications to the area.
