INDIANAPOLIS -- Police are stepping up patrols near the Interstate 65 construction zone after a Call 6 Investigates report last week showed drivers making dangerous and illegal turns off I-65 onto a closed entrance ramp.
CALL 6 | Drivers are making dangerous turns off I-65 to avoid construction traffic
On Monday, Call 6 Investigates rode along with Indiana State Police in one of their unmarked Ford Mustangs. Several drivers were ticketed after they began using the closed 29th Street entrance ramp when traffic began backing up during the evening rush hour.
Police say they'll be stepping up patrols in the area through the end of the interstate closure.
If you're caught using the exit ramp, police say they can issue tickets for driving the wrong way on a one-way road, disregarding a traffic control device or even reckless driving.
