INDIANAPOLIS -- A special prosecutor reached a plea agreement Wednesday with Nikolas Layton, the son of Marion County Sheriff John Layton and former IMPD officer charged in January with dealing cocaine.
Layton, 35, resigned from IMPD after a confidential informant working for the department reportedly purchased cocaine and hydrocodone from him and two other suspects in December.

Layton had worked for the department for 10 years prior to his departure, and was most recently assigned to the hit-and-run investigation unit.
Call 6 Investigates obtained Layton's discipline record from IMPD, which showed only one incident in his 10 years on the force. Records show that in 2014, Layton was suspended for two days without pay for not keeping his department-issued firearm safe and secure.
Due to Marion County Prosecutor Terry Curry's professional and personal relationship with Layton's father, Sheriff Layton, a special prosecutor was requested in the case.
The prosecution will drop most of the charges against Layton and his maximum sentence will be five years.
He will plead guilty to conspiracy to commit dealing cocaine, a level 4 felony.
Sentencing was scheduled for October 18 at 9 a.m.
