INDIANAPOLIS -- A woman accused of driving drunk and killing a 66-year-old Noblesville man Monday morning did not have a driver’s license and police believe she is also an undocumented Mexican national.
Elizabeth Vargas-Hernandez, 35, is charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing death. She was also cited for operating a vehicle without ever receiving a driver’s license.
Indiana State Police say Vargas-Hernandez was driving on I-465 just before 2:30 a.m. when she rear-ended a car driven by DavidKriehn, causing it to slide off the road and flip several times until it landed in a ditch.
Kriehn was taken to St. Vincent Hospital where he later died.
Police initially had trouble identifying Vargas-Hernandez because she did not have a state-issued driver's license.
Monday’s accident report lists her name as Elizabeth Vargas-Hernandez, but Call 6 Investigates found a 2015 accident report identifying her as Elizabeth Ornelis-Hernandez.
The report was also from an accident where Hernandez was driving without a driver’s license.
Metro Police did not believe an arrest was necessary at that time.
State Police tell Call 6 Investigates that they believe Vargas-Hernandez is also undocumented.
