INDIANAPOLIS -- A woman convicted of severely beating an 81-year-old is back in prison for violating her parole.

Jessica Vasquez was sentenced to 20 years in prison in 2008 after pleading guilty to aggravated battery.

Vasquez was released from state prison on February 23, 2017 and placed on parole with the Indiana Department of Correction.

Carmel police arrested Vasquez six months later, on August 25, 2017, for drunk driving after she was involved in a crash at Springmill Road and W. 111th Street.

Vasquez pleaded guilty to operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person.

She was sentenced to a year probation, a 90 day driver’s license suspension, and she served four days in jail.

But, Vasquez is back in prison for violating her state parole in the 2008 aggravated battery case.

A condition of her parole was to remain drug and alcohol free, maintain employment and report to scheduled meetings.

The Indiana Parole Board issued an arrest warrant for Vasquez in August following her drunk driving arrest, and she was transferred into the custody of Indiana Department of Correction on November 3.

She’s currently housed at Rockville Correctional with a projected release date of December 29, 2022.

Call 6 Investigates asked the Indiana Department of Correction why Vasquez was let out of prison nine years into her 20 year sentence.

Spokesperson Isaac Randolph said Vasquez earned credits for completing her GED, the Reformative Residential Reentry Program, as well as vocational programs for culinary arts and business tech.

The parole board is expected to review Vasquez’s parole violation and could release her from prison or keep her until her full sentence is complete in 2022, Randolph said.

Evelyn Page, 81, was driving in the 6200 block of South Meridian Street on April 30 when Vasquez -- believing Page had cut her off -- drove around her and slammed on her brakes, forcing Page to stop.

Vasquez exited her car, opened the driver's side door of Page's car and began beating her. She then left her lying in the middle of the street.

The 81-year-old suffered several injuries, including fractures in one of her legs.

Vasquez expressed remorse in a profanity-laced interview with RTV6 as she was taken to a police station.

"I don't have anything to explain to you," Vasquez said in 2008. "I hope she's feeling better tomorrow."
