MUNCIE — Ball State University President Geoffrey S. Mearns has tested positive for COVID-19, the university announced Saturday.
Mearns learned he tested presumptively positive for the coronavirus Saturday morning. He took a PCR test Friday morning in preparation for attending Ball State's football game Saturday at Scheumann Stadium, according to a statement posted to Ball State's official Twitter account.
"President Mearns is following CDC guidelines and all standard University protocols, including having completed the contact tracing process," the statement said.
Both Mearns and his wife, Jennifer, are quarantining at home without symptoms.
Since March, 118 Delaware County residents have died with COVID-19, while 6,390 have tested positive for the virus.
