MOORESVILLE — Several churches in Morgan County are coming together to help those in need in its communities.

Churches in Mission is an organization partnering with area churches to help provide food and hygiene products to those who need them in them in the county, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Its been a struggle. its been a challenge,” Jen Reed, the Outreach Minister at Mount Gilead Church in Mooresville, said. "And Easter as we know it probably wont happen this year, but that’s OK we’re gonna do the best that we can to bring our congregation and our community together."

Jen is also a mother, whose kids are out of school and as a family is adjusting to a new normal with e-learning.

"In fact we just opened up our back parking lot at church and added extra WiFi so parents who don’t have the WiFi at their home they are able to come to the church parking lot,” Jen said.

Mount Gilead and several other churches across Morgan County may not be able to hold Sunday Service, but they are still working together to impact the lives of people in their community.

Several are churches are partnering with an organization called "Churches in Mission." The organization serves the underprivileged by providing food and hygiene products at their location in Mooresville and Martinsville.

The organization set up two drive-thrus for those in need in the community. Volunteers are loading carts with groceries and helping load the items into people's cars.

"But we are seeing a major increase in our demand for what resources we are providing," David Maurer, executive director of Churches in Mission, said. "So we are trying to ask everyone in the community to come alongside us.”
