MARTINSVILLE — It's one of the sure signs of autumn in Indiana—the Martinsville Fall Foliage Festival.

But this year, the annual event has fallen victim to COVID-19. Festival organizers said it would be difficult to comply with capacity limits, social distancing measures, and the increased sanitation that would be needed this year.

The festival had been scheduled for October 1-4. It's board issued this statement:

The Fall Foliage Festival board is small and it would be impossible to ensure all of these guidelines would be followed, and that all attendees would be social distancing and wearing face coverings during all events of the festival, including the parade.

If canceling saves one life in these uncertain times of a world-wide pandemic, it has been worth the criticism that we will receive.

As many of you know, the board lost one of our own to this horrific disease, and we are heartbroken from the loss.
