NEW PALESTINE — New Palestine High School's opening night football game against Decatur Central has been canceled.

In a message sent to families Sunday, athletic director Al Cooper said the team has a "significant number" of players who are ineligible to play due to quarantine procedures after a teammate tested positive for COVID-19 in late July.

The Indiana State High School Athletic Association requires football players to participate in at least 10 practices before taking the field in games.

Smith said the Dragons are still scheduled to play Brebeuf Jesuit on Aug. 28.

New Palestine has won consecutive Class 5A state championships and is 28-0 over the past two seasons.
