Increase in COVID-19 cases prompts Greenwood to close City Center

GREENWOOD — A spike in COVID-19 cases has prompted Greenwood to close its City Center building to public visitors, the city announced Wednesday.

The city said out of an abundance of caution the City Center will be closed to the public but city government remains fully operational.

The city's main phone number — 317-887-5000 — remains open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 pm. Health clinic visitors can ring the doorbell and someone will let them into the building.

"Our top priority is the health and safety of this community and its citizens," Mayor Mark W. Myers said. "This is a fluid situation, and we will continue to monitor it closely, including guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the World Health Organization, along with state and county health departments. We understand the inconvenience and frustration this may cause, but we believe the potential risks of inaction are too great to ignore."

The city also offered guidance for its sanitation utility and stormwater utility customers.

For all Greenwood Sanitation Utility customers, options for payment include:
