Indiana reports 109 more COVID-19 deaths and 4,819 new cases on Wednesday

INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana State Department of Health reported Wednesday that 109 more people died with COVID-19 and 4,819 others tested positive for the virus.

The majority of newly reported deaths occurred in the past week with 61 people dying Monday and Tuesday. Deaths are reported based on when the state receives data and occurred over multiple days.

A total of 2,941 people are in the hospital with COVID-19, a decrease of 10 since Tuesday.

There have been 505,017 positive cases and 7,812 deaths in Indiana since the pandemic began. An additional 348 probable COVID-19 deaths have also been reported.

There have been more than 5.62 million COVID-19 tests administered to more than 2.62 million individuals with a 19.3% cumulative positivity rate among unique individuals. Indiana's seven-day positivity rate among unique individuals through Dec. 23 is 23.3%. Among all tests, the cumulative positivity rate is 10.5%, while the seven-day positivity rate is 13.7%.

The state health department said 21.7% of ICU beds and 68.9% of ventilators are available.
