Indiana reports 99 more COVID-19 deaths and 6,543 new positive cases

INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana State Department of Health reported Thursday that 99 more people died with COVID-19 and 6,543 others tested positive for the virus.

The majority of newly reported deaths occurred in the past week with 61 people dying Monday and Tuesday. Deaths are reported based on when the state receives data and occurred over multiple days.

A total of 2,842 people are in the hospital with COVID-19, a decrease of 99 since Wednesday.

There have been 511,485 positive cases and 7,911 deaths in Indiana since the pandemic began. An additional 352 probable COVID-19 deaths have also been reported.

There have been more than 5.68 million COVID-19 tests administered to more than 2.63 million individuals with a 19.4% cumulative positivity rate among unique individuals. Indiana's seven-day positivity rate among unique individuals through Dec. 24 is 23.7%. Among all tests, the cumulative positivity rate is 10.6%, while the seven-day positivity rate is 14.1%.

The state health department said 20.4% of ICU beds and 69.4% of ventilators are available.
