MUNCIE — Muncie High School has canceled their next two football games and will quarantine their team after a player tested positive for COVID-19.

The school says 32 football players and five coaches were determined to have been in close contact with the student with a positive test on September 9. Indiana State Health Department guidelines require close contacts to quarantine for 14 days after their last exposure.

"Barring any additional positive cases, the team will resume practice on September 24," the school said in a statement.

Their next game will then be against Marion on October 2.

"It's unfortunate to have this happen now with the momentum we've built over the past two weeks, but we need to follow the advice of health experts and keep our kids safe," MCHS Head Football Coach Darrick Lee said.

After going winless in 2019, the Bearcats are currently 2-1 this year following Friday's 47-41 victory over Richmond.
