INDIANAPOLIS -- Two Wayne Township firefighters were slightly injured by an explosion following a shooting early Tuesday morning on Indy's west side.

Police responded to the 600 block of Beachway Drive at the Westlake Apartments shortly after 3 a.m. for a report of shots fired.

They found a bullet-riddled car and a man with a gunshot wound. Bullet holes were also found in the apartment building but it appears no one was hurt, according to officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.

Another person with a gunshot wound to the groin was found a short time later on Mission Drive.

Both victims are said to be stable.

Officers say they found at least four guns at the initial shooting scene and that narcotics were likely involved.

In the meantime, Wayne Township firefighters were responding to a fire at a lift station at the same apartment complex.

Two firefighters were injured when an explosion occurred near a manhole as crews were wrapping up.

Both were evaluated on the scene and released.

Mike Pruitt with the Wayne Township Fire Department says it's believed the explosion was caused by gas leaking into a storm sewer from a car that had been hit by a bullet.
