23-year-old man charged in deadly New Year's Eve triple shooting

INDIANAPOLIS — A 23-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a triple shooting New Year's Eve that left one person dead and two others seriously injured.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers were called to the scene at the intersection of North Belmont Avenue and West St. Clair Street on December 31 around 8:20 p.m.

Arriving officers initially found a man suffering from a gunshot wound at the scene. During their investigation, officers located another man and a woman who had been shot in a nearby alley.

Both men were taken to the hospital, one of them was in critical condition at the time of the shooting. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Marion County Coroner identifeid the victim as Eddie Brown, 59.

On January 10, detectives arrested Chrisopher Barksdale, 23, in connection with the crimes. He's preliminarily charged with murder and attempted murder.

The details surrounding the shooting remain under investigation.
