INDIANAPOLIS – An Indianapolis pastor was shot and killed on the city’s west side early Saturday morning.
Neighbors said 66-year-old Oluwadayomi Epenusi was shot in West Lake Apartment Complex in the 6000 block of Beachview Drive around 1:30 a.m. when he was gunned down outside of his building.
Indianapolis police were called but could not find Epenusi, as his roommate had driven him to Eskenazi Hospital.
Officers said he died later that day.
Epenusi had recently moved to Indianapolis from Nigeria, and often sent money back to his home in hopes of one day bringing his family to the U.S.
Neighbor Kristina Teague said she was frightened by the gunshots.
"I texted one of my friends that live in here and I was like, ‘did you hear that?’ and they were like, ‘yeah It was gunshots.’ I wanted to make sure I wasn't just hearing stuff and I dropped to the ground. It was too close,” said Teague.
Other neighbors said Epenusi was quiet and mostly kept to himself.
The shooting remains under investigation by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.
