ANDERSON, Ind. -- A 14-year-old Anderson boy was arrested in connection with a BB gun shooting that put a 5-year-old boy in the hospital and left a pellet lodged into his head for life.

Major Joel Sandefur with the Anderson Police Department said the 14-year-old was arrested and charged with theft, criminal recklessness and aggravated battery.

Sandefur said the department received a tip from a parent whose son was with the suspect the night of the shooting.

The 14-year-old was accused of shooting 5-year-old Bentley while he and his parents were riding in a golf cart Friday. Police said he admitted to the shooting.

Doctors decided to leave the BB in his head to avoid a potentially dangerous surgery.

On Wednesday, Natasha McAdams, Bentley's mother said she wanted justice for her son and hoped the teen responsible would be charged.

“I asked him (Bentley) if he wanted the boy who did this to him to get in trouble and go to jail. He doesn't understand what juvenile is of course, but he knows what jail is and he said yes,” said McAdams. “Seeing my child look at me, telling me yes, makes me feel like I need to do what my child wants me to do.”

His family posted a message on Facebook following the arrest:
