PUTNAM COUNTY, Ind. -- Charges have been filed in connection to a shooting that injured a Cloverdale Police Department officer.

According to Indiana State Police, Cloverdale officer Luke Brown, 27, was injured in a shooting in Greencastle on December 10.

Brown along with other officers responded to the home in the 4400 block of E. County Road 375 S. following another shooting in Putnam County.

State police say Jeffrey Hunter, 48, confronted the officers at the door of the home and fired a shotgun, hitting Officer Brown in the chest. Brown returned fire, hitting the suspect in the torso.

The bullet hit Officer Brown's vest and he was taken to the hospital where he was treated and released.

State Police say Putnam is still being treated at an Indianapolis hospital. He will be charged with attempted murder, resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, battery and theft when he is released.

While wounded, Officer Brown provided medical treatment to the suspect until the paramedics arrived. The suspect, 48-year-old Jeffrey Hunter, remains hospitalized in Indianapolis.

A spokesman for ISP says a review of potential charges against Hunter will come later this week.
