Students and parents can sign up for emergency alerts from their university that can be delivered in multiple ways, including by text and email.
Most universities also send out alerts on Twitter and Facebook.
Butler University reposted this video with recommendations from Butler Police on exactly what students and staff should do, and where they should go – or stay – if an attack was to happen on campus.

Another way to keep your family updated during emergency situations is to utilize the Facebook Safety Check.
Facebook activated their Safety Check during the events at Ohio State on Monday.
You can visit your university website or speak to a counselor for information on how to sign up for emergency alerts.
