INDIANAPOLIS -- The Ben Davis High School student shot on the city's west side Friday died early Tuesday morning, according to the family.
Juan Romero Sanchez,16, was shot and wounded while playing soccer with his younger nephew in a field. Police believe the shooting may have been related to a pair of shoes.
The student's family said he died around 2 a.m. and all were present.
"Even though it was a sad and devastating moment for all of us, we are glad he is no longer suffering," said Jose Sanchez, the victim's cousin.
He also said the family is making funeral arrangements and are thankful for all of the help they have received from the community.
Police are still looking for the two men they believe were involved in the shooting.
Sanchez's aunt said the family wants justice.
"He is a very kind son, a very kind nephew, a very kind friend. We don't know what would make someone shoot him the way they did," said Ana Sanchez.
