FISHERS, Ind. – Senior citizens in a Fishers community were scammed out of thousands of dollars by a woman who posed as staff last week.
On July 26, a woman dressed in scrubs walked through the front doors of Meadow Brook Assisted Living and into the room of an elderly woman. The suspect told the woman to give her money so she could go on a grocery run for the residents.
The suspect was given money by the elderly woman and then stole her purse, Fishers police said.
"The level of what these people have done to these victims, you know it's very difficult to remain impartial in our job, very difficult," said Detective Cesar Rodriguez of Fishers Police.
The suspect left the property in a white vehicle driven by another woman. Police said the two spent more than $2,000 at nearby grocery stores.
Meadow Brook wasn't the only place attacked. Detectives have found similar cases at senior communities in Greenfield and Indianapolis.
“To know that these people are able to coerce and get into places like this, it's very concerning," said Linda Myers, whose mother lives in the community.
The parent company of Meadow Brook said they have been working with police to see if protocol should be changed.
