INDIANAPOLIS – Two former Marion County Traffic Court bailiffs face charges for allegedly forging documents intended to dismiss traffic court cases and various fees, according to Marion County Prosecutor Terry Curry.

Evelyn Hughes was charged with 49 counts including multiple counts of forgery and official misconduct. She was also accused of accepting money to dismiss traffic cases.

Carnetta Arthur was charged with 14 counts including forgery and official misconduct.

The probable cause affidavit reports that during their time of employment, the pair allegedly forged judges’ signatures on documents dismissing charges before the Marion County Traffic Court. They are then believed to have forwarded the forged documents to the BMV to clear suspensions and reinstatement fees.

A spokesperson says the Marion County Superior Court no longer employs Hughes and Arthur.

In a separate case, another former bailiff at the Arrestee Processing Center, Crystal Jones, was accused of accessing law enforcement databases for personal use.

The case’s probable cause affidavit finds Jones accessed the information, then provided that to defendants. She is also accused of completing bail interviews without permission, in which she knew the defendant and provided false information knowing it would be considered by a judge for determination of a bond.

She was charged with seven counts of official misconduct and two counts of computer trespass.
