FORTVILLE, Ind. – A former Mt. Vernon Middle School Principal accused of failing to report child abuse allegations will educate school staffers on the importance of reporting an accusation of child abuse and neglect as part of his plea agreement.

Scott Shipley reached the agreement with prosecutors Friday and admitted to police that they had a reason to investigate him, but he did not plead guilty to any criminal charges.

Shipley was initially charged with one misdemeanor count for failure to report allegations of child abuse surrounding former teacher’s aide and substitute teacher, Kisha Nuckols.

Hancock County Prosecutor Brent Eaton told Call 6 Investigates Friday the case is still pending, but if Shipley meets the education presentation requirements within a year, the charge will be dismissed.

Shipley will speak with teachers, administrators and school staff in Hancock County’s four school districts, said Eaton.

Shipley and his attorney had claimed he did not have to because the student was 18 years old when he learned of the allegations.

Scott Shipley is no longer employed as the Mt. Vernon Middle School principal. However, he is still working for the district as Director of Special Programs.
