IMPD detains 5 people for questioning after home break-in, SWAT standoff

INDIANAPOLIS -- Indianapolis police detained five people for questioning Monday afternoon following a SWAT standoff on the southeast side.

The situation began with a report of a home break-in in the 7500 block of Gunyon Drive in Franklin Township.

A neighbor told police he witnessed the break-in and started chasing two suspects.

IMPD officers and a police helicopter then began tracking the suspects, who were seen running into a house.

State police SWAT officers were called in to assist with the situation. They were eventually able to talk five people inside the home out.

Detectives said they were talking to all five individuals to determine who could have been involved in the home burglary.

IMPD says it has been investigating a number of home and car break-ins in Franklin Township. They said it wasn't immediately clear if any of the people they detained could be related to other break-ins.
