INDIANAPOLIS — An Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officer is recovering on Monday after being shot by a shoplifting suspect on the northeast side on Sunday evening.

According to IMPD, Officer Eric Rosenbaum, 29, is still listed as "good" and is in "good spirits."

Along with these developments, metro police also released the name and booking photo of the Lowe's shoplifting suspect as 40-year-old, William Allen. Allen is currently being held in the Marion County Jail.

Police were dispatched to the Lowe's parking lot on the city's northeast side, located at 8801 East 25th Street, on reports of a shoplifter at the home improvement store.

According to an IMPD police report, when Officer Rosenbaum confronted Allen at the 2400 block of Galaxy Lane, shots were fired.

"Each day, the women and men of the IMPD put on this uniform and leave their families behind to serve our community. No day is routine in a police officer’s job, and I’m proud of the work they do to keep our neighborhoods safe. We remain committed to working alongside neighborhoods, local organizations, and the entire Indianapolis community to make our city a safer place for all,” IMPD Chief Bryan Roach said. “We are so grateful Officer Rosenbaum survived this violent encounter, and our prayers are with him and his family during this time.”
