Indy sees 30% drop in shootings year-to-date compared to 2015

INDIANAPOLIS -- Indianapolis saw 30 percent fewer nonfatal shootings in the first four months of 2017 compared to the same period in 2015.

That's good news for a city that's seen a trend of increasing violence over the past several years.

The period from Jan. 1 – April 30, 2015, saw IMPD called on 162 nonfatal shootings. The department investigated 113 over the same period this year – a 30-percent drop.

Overall, Indianapolis has seen 35 criminal homicides so far this year, compared to 39 at this time last year. Of 2017's, 12 have resulted thus far in an arrest.
