ISP: Ex-officer posed as cop during traffic stop in Boone County

Posted

INDIANAPOLIS -- A former police officer who resigned in 2013 was arrested Tuesday for posing as an officer during a traffic stop in Boone County.

An Indiana State Trooper pulled over a black SUV spotted traveling 87 miles per hour in a 70-mile-per-hour zone on I-65 near Lebanon Tuesday morning.

During the traffic stop, the driver, Keith Neher, allegedly identified himself as a reserve police officer, and produced a badge and police identification card.

Suspicious of that information, the trooper eventually determined that Neher had been a police officer, although he resigned in 2013 and had no police powers at the time of the stop.

A subsequent search of Neher's vehicle turned up three handguns.

Neher was arrested on a preliminary charge of impersonating a law enforcement officer and booked into the Boone County Jail.
