INDIANAPOLIS – A man was accused of impersonating a police officer Thursday.

Officials at the Marion County Sheriff’s Office said 31-year-old Anthony Roberson allegedly began impersonated a police officer April 8 after he attempted to pull over an off-duty Marion County Sheriff’s Deputy, who was driving an unmarked vehicle.

During the traffic stop, he was found driving a white Ford Crown Victoria with red and blue lights.

Roberson was arrested during the traffic stop attempt.

He was preliminarily charged with impersonating a public servant, criminal confinement while armed, and unlawful use of body armor.

Deputies believe Roberson attempted to two more illegal traffic stops before he was arrested.

“This is the type of arrest that all in law enforcement appreciate: Stopping someone from using authority that he or she does not have, and preventing that person from further abusing members of our community,” said Lt. Col. Kerry Forestal. “This individual, who seems to have an unusual interest in criminal justice, will hopefully learn a lot during his trip through the judicial system. We hope it will deter him and any others from attempting such a foolish activity.”

Deputies are searching for individuals who may have been illegally pulled over by Roberson.
