NEW CASTLE, Ind. -- A New Castle mother and grandmother were arrested last week after a 2-year-old child tested positive for meth.
Officers from the Indiana State Police Meth Suppression Section visited a home in the 800 block of South 17th Street in New Castle while searching for a parolee, Dusty Kidd, 36, who had recently tested positive for multiple drugs.
Police learned Kidd had been staying with Savannah Dorris, 21, and Ty Dorris, 50, at their home for the past three weeks.
When troopers arrived at the home, the women said Kidd had been staying there, but denied police permission to search the residence.
Troopers subsequently performed a trash pull at the residence, turning up a bent metal spoon with residue that tested positive for meth. They also found a small plastic baggie that tested positive for meth, along with a syringe.
Based on that evidence, police obtained a search warrant for the home. Inside, they reportedly located multiple syringes, plastic bags containing a substance that tested positive for meth and digital scales.
Police also found several dogs and two young children – ages 2 and 4 – living in the home.
According to a probable cause affidavit filed in Henry County, a medical screen of the 2-year-old showed the child tested positive for meth.
Following the search, police arrested Kidd and Savannah and Ty Dorris on multiple charges, including possession of methamphetamine, maintaining a common nuisance and neglect of a dependent.
All three were booked into the Henry County Jail without incident.
