One man hospitalized after shooting on Indy's east side

INDIANAPOLIS – A man was hospitalized and underwent surgery after a shooting occurred on the city’s east side Thursday morning.

Police believe a woman was trying to get out of a car driven by a man at Parker Avenue and 20th Street, when another man approached the car and attempted to help her.

The driver then pulled out a gun and shot the man trying to help the woman, police said.

She was able to get out the car and then put the shooting victim into another vehicle where she drove him to a gas station at Rural and 19th Streets.

The shooting victim was taken to Eskenazi Hospital and police are still looking for the shooting suspect, officers said.

Police said the shooting victim was talking as he went into surgery. His name has not been released.
