PD: Plainfield inmate death may be homicide

PLAINFIELD, Ind. – An inmate died at an Indianapolis hospital following an altercation at Plainfield Correctional Facility Wednesday, according to police. The incident is being investigated as a homicide.

Curtis Cash, 48, was found in respiratory distress from an apparent altercation around 6:18 a.m.

He was transported from his cell to Hendricks County Hospital and later taken to IU Methodist Hospital. Cash was pronounced dead at 1:13 p.m. by medical personnel, according to the correctional facility’s public information officer.

The incident is currently under investigation by the facility’s Information and Intelligence Office, and the Indiana State Police as a potential homicide.

An autopsy and toxicology testing will be conducted by the Marion County Coroner.  

Cash was sentenced in Putnam County for burglary and was projected to be released in May 2018.
