Lockdown lifted at Zionsville's Stone Gate Elementary, students released with police supervision

ZIONSVILLE, Ind. -- A Zionsville elementary school was placed on lockdown Tuesday afternoon due to an ongoing police investigation in the area.

Zionsville police announced the lockdown at Stone Gate Elementary shortly after 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.The lockdown was lifted just before 3 p.m. so the students could be released from school. Police were supervising their release. 

Stone Gate Elementary is located northeast of the intersection of Oak Street and County Road South 700 East.

Boone County dispatchers said they received a 911 call about a break-in at a residence near the school.

Zionsville police said a vehicle was located near the elementary school fitting the description of a vehicle involved in an ongoing investigation.

The lockdown was issued as a precautionary measure, police said.

No other details about the investigation were immediately available.
