INDIANAPOLIS -- You can help the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department catch the person or persons who have put skimming devices on several ATM's in central Indiana.

Police say someone used personal information gathered by skimming devices on ATM's to place several fraudulent transactions last May.

In addition, officers recovered a skimmer on July 1 at the Teachers Credit Union in the 4700 block of South Emerson Avenue.

If you have any information about the devices or the suspect(s), call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-262-TIPS. You can also submit a tip through the Crime Stoppers mobile app ortheir website

All calls remain anonymous and if your information leads to a felony arrest, you may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1000.

Police say there are a few things you can do to keep yourself from becoming a victim of skimming:

  • Use cash when you can
  • Report an unusual/suspicious activity near gas pumps/card reading devices
  • When using your card at the gas pump, use the pump closest to the building
  • Diligently check your credit card statement each month for fraudulent charges. Criminals often use stolen credit card numbers to make small purchases to ensure the card will work before making large purchases
