INDIANAPOLIS – Thieves found a new way to break into homes on Indy’s northeast side Sunday.

Several homeowners in the Martindale-Brightwood and Fall Creek neighborhoods discovered holes in their garage doors.

Amy Jones, who lives in Fall Creek Place, said someone stole her washer, dryer, lawn mower, paint sprayer and other sentimental belongings that once belonged to her husband.

"The thing that is most hard for me is my husband passed away and they took all his tools,” said Jones. “That was the last thing I had that was sentimental to him. They just emptied out the tool chest. Left me with a couple of tools that are insignificant."

Raio and Meghan’s garage door in the Martindale-Brightwood neighborhood was also cut.

"As you can see from the hole, it’s not that big. It's got some sharp edges to it so somebody is ready to risk their health and safety to get in,” said Raio Krishnayya.

Other homes were also broken into and many neighbors found out about the incident through the Nextdoor mobile app.

While damage was done, many of the homeowners do not plan to move out of the area but say they will increase security around their property.
