INDIANAPOLIS -- Three men were caught on video trying to rob a cab driver at gunpoint before firing several shots at the vehicle.
The incident happened last Friday, just before midnight near 16th Street and Rural Street on Indianapolis' east side.
The video, released by the Yellow Cab Company, shows three men sitting in the back of the cab talking to the driver before they pulled out their guns and demanded money.
“The suspects produced a handgun and asked the driver for money,” said Yellow Cab Operations Manager Jeff Weber. “They actually put the pistol to the back of his head.”
When the cab driver swats the gun away, the video shows a second man pulling out a gun before the men break out the window of the cab and crawl out of it.
As the driver tries to pull away, you can hear several shots fired at the vehicle.
The driver was not hit.
“Fortunate that he wasn’t shot with as many bullets as were shot at the cab,” said Weber. “It’s one of the more violent things I’ve seen. We’ve had maybe a half dozen robberies in the time I’ve been in this position; most are non-violent. Normally, a weapon is involved, but there have not been shots exchanged.”
Yellow Cab is offering a $2,500 reward for any information leading to an arrest in the case.
If you have any information on the identity of the three suspects contact Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317-262-TIPS(8477).
