Woman finds children in Randolph County hotel room with overdosed father

WINCHESTER, Ind. – Three children were found in a Randolph County hotel room with their overdosed father Tuesday morning.

The children were found inside of a hotel room at Randolph Inn and Suites, along with their unresponsive father by the building’s manager. She said the children – ages 1,2 and 5 - were wearing soiled diapers and asking for food.

“I walked by the room and there was one kid that was about 5 years old and said ‘I can't wake up my dad,’” said the woman who wished to remain anonymous. “When I looked inside I see the father laying on the floor with the three kids.”

The floor was covered with urine soaked clothing and the toilet was filled with feces, the manager said.

“We got the kids cleaned up, brought them in for breakfast and called for help,” she said.

Child Protective Services were called to take the children into their care, and their father, 22-year-old Ayrron Wells, was arrested. He faces three counts of neglect.

Winchester police believe Wells took an unknown amount of Xanax pills.

The hotel manager said when she found the children, they weren’t panicked.

“I was the one more shocked than the kids. That was the sad part,” she said.

Wells was released from the Randolph County Jail on a $5,000 bond and could face up to 30 months in prison.
