LAFAYETTE — Lafayette SWAT officers shot and wounded a man who had barricaded himself - and a woman - in an apartment, following a two hour negotiation on Monday afternoon.
According to Lafayette Police, officers went to an apartment at 2500 Derbyshire to serve an arrest warrant to a 26-year-old male wanted for resisting arrest with vehicle.
Instead of going peacefully to police, the suspect barricaded himself in an apartment with a woman. The relationship between the man and woman has yet to be determined.
After a two hour negotiation to get the man out of the apartment, police heard the man making threats against the woman. Police say they were concerned for the woman's safety, and SWAT officers then broke into the apartment and shot the suspect.
It is not clear at this time if the suspect was armed or not. He was wounded by the gunshot, but police say he is expected to survive.
