INDIANAPOLIS -- An Indianapolis family that had fallen on hard times received a warm gift ahead of Christmas.
Jessica Baird and her two sons, Dwayne and Devon, were stuck after their furnace broke. Baird paid somebody to fix it, but the job still didn't get done.
That is, until one of Baird's family friends got an idea.
"I'd do anything to help somebody that needed it like that," she said. "So I made the call and said a prayer."
On the other end of that call was One Hour Heating and Air.
"It touched me because I'm a father," the company's vice president, Jason Ring, said.
The company sent a technician to fix the furnace for free.
"I was just really blessed, really blessed that they came out and did this for free," Baird said.
The only payment accepted was a hug and a handwritten thank-you note.
The note was worth more than cash to Ring.
"To me, this is something that I can take home," Ring said. "I'll get emotional and show my kids this is what life is about."
"It's just amazing that we have heat again and I can have a little bit of money for my kid's Christmas," Baird said.
