INDIANAPOLIS -- If you want to know about love ask someone with a lifetime of experience in the matter.

That's why we decided to get advice from a couple who's been together for over half a century.

Jerry and Jamia Norris have been married since 1957.

With over 60 years under their belt as a couple, they’ve been through it all. From the birth of their first child and then grandchild to the day their daughter passed away.

But if you ask them for the secret to wedded bliss they'll tell you the answer isn't that simple.

First, communication is a key to any good relationship.

“You just need to talk, period,” said Jamia. “Couple’s don’t talk enough. We probably don’t talk as much as we could to get things out in the open.”

“If you don’t communicate then it’s hard, it would really be hard,” said Jerry.

But you also can’t forget to laugh.

“I can tell you one thing, you have to laugh a lot,” said Jamia. “I used to tell him all the time you just drive me nuts!”

And one thing’s for certain; it’s not always going to be easy.

“You have to give and take that’s the main thing,” said Jerry.

But once you’ve found that special someone you’ll get to experience each step of the way together, and Jerry and Jamia say that’s what makes it all worthwhile.

“There are different stages,” said Jamia. “Like when you first meet, and you’re so excited, and it takes your breath away. And then they grow on you and they kind of get under your skin sometimes, and things happen, and you work to raise your family. But there all stages of love, I think.”
