GREENWOOD — Things have gone from not so good to very good for a soon-to-open FedEx distribution facility in Greenwood.

Two-years ago, FedEx dropped plans for the Greenwood sorting facility, although the developer continued with construction of the building with the expectation that another company would fill it.

Then, just recently, FedEx said Greenwood was back in and it would hire about 500 workers. Now, the company has doubled that workforce to 1000 full and part-time employees. It needs to fill those jobs quickly and be up and running in time for the holiday rush.

FedEx says the growth in e-commerce continues to drive increasing customer demand for its services. In a statement issued Monday, the company said the 800,000 square-foot facility at Interstate-65 and Worthsville Road will "add critical capacity to the FedEx Ground network in time to help meet the needs of shoppers and consumers this holiday season."

Open positions are available for package handlers. This is the link where company information is available: https://groundwarehousejobs.fedex.com/groundwarehousejobs/

The Greenwood Redevelopment Commission recently gave its OK for the FedEx operation.
