INDIANAPOLIS — If you’re looking for a job where you can make a difference, look no further than Indiana MENTOR. They offer employment opportunities from Mishawaka to Evansville.
Indiana MENTOR provides support and care to people with disabilities across the state, and they are looking to hire people who have one quality in particular — a caring heart.
“This job is not just where you can sit and just babysit, you really have to interact with them,” Brittany McReynolds said.
McReynolds has worked for Indiana MENTOR for nine years, starting as a direct service provider.
“The state of Indiana has really moved towards a waiver program, a home and community based waiver which allows people with disabilities to live on their own in the community, be it an individual apartment or shared living apartment, or in a shared group home space, and so that requires many more direct service professionals to provide care to them, and provide one-on-one support as needed,” Knute Rotta, executive director, said.

Rotto says they work hard to find people who have a passion for helping others, and if you have a degree and experience, that’s great. If you don’t, they’ll train you.
“The individuals that we want to employ really should do this because they have a heart and a purpose for the people with disabilities,” Rotto said.
Indiana MENTOR also prides itself on internal promotions. McReynolds, for example, now works as a program supervisor.
“I basically manage the entire group home from their needs, wants, all the necessities, grocery shopping, making sure that the staff has everything that they need, the individuals being served have everything they need,” McReynolds said.
It’s not only a job, but a calling, and one that brings a lot of joy to everyone at Indiana MENTOR.
“It’s a fun position to be in, but it’s also challenging because you’re working with individuals with disabilities that sometimes could be challenging, but also at the same time have a life they want to live,” Rotto said.
Indiana MENTOR has a number of opportunities across the state, including rural areas.
