INDIANAPOLIS — As COVID-19 continues to spread across the country, many places have been forced to close under mandate from city, state and federal governments — but there are also hundreds of places that are seeking to hire people to fill immediate needs.

Allied Universial
The security company has clients across central Indiana, but the outbreak has forced them to re-assign workers to other properties. More jobs are becoming available outside of the I-465 loop.

The New-York-based wet wipe producer will hire more than 100 employees in Plainfield and Mooresville. The hiring need is in response to the demand for cleaning and hygine products. The company is looking for both temporary and full-time employees, including machine operators, forklift drivers and maintenance and clerical workers, to serve across all shifts. The company will offer training for all skill levels. The drugstore chain says it needs to hire 9,500 employees nationwide. There are full-time, part-time and temporary positions in such areas as customer service associates, pharmacy technicians, and shift leaders. Pizza Hut is looking for 30.000 workers till fill permanent positions. As more and more people are getting food delivered, Pizza Hut needs drivers who can do the job. Instacart, which shops for and delivers groceries direct to your home says there is a huge demand for their business because people are staying at home during the pandemic. The company needs to hire thousands of of workers who are independent contractors.

Lowes says it is hiring at all its stores in the Indianapolis area. There are full-time, part-time and season jobs available.

New information Friday from Walmart: The company plans to hire 2,000 people at its Indiana stores and a total of 150,000 nationwide.

The base pay starts at up to $17 per-hour. Jobs range from stockers to forklift drivers, so people of all ages and experience levels are needed.

A spokesperson for Meijer tells us they are actively looking to hire people for immediate positions at their local stores. Meijer is hoping to hire as many as 30-40 additional employees to fill those needs, many of the new employees would be in charge of stocking shelves and helping with inventory.

Aldi is also hoping to immediately fill multiple positions. Employees will be hired in as "seasonal" and can start as soon as their qualifications are verified.

While Kroger is closing some of their personal-service counters like meat, seafood and salad bars — they're also looking to hire around 10,000 workers across the country to fill immediate needs in other areas of the store.

Dollar General announced it plans to nearly double its normal hiring rate and add up to 50,000 employees by the end of April.

While Dollar General currently anticipates the majority of these roles to be temporary, the company is also looking to provide long-term career growth opportunities to some of the new employees.

CVS plans to immediately fill 50,000 full-time, part-time and temporary roles across the country. At least 1,000 of the positions will be at locations in Indiana.

Roles include store associates, home delivery drivers, distribution center employees and member/customer service professionals.

Discount Filters, an air and water filter manufacturer in Greenwood, serves residential customers, but their commercial division has expanded over the last several years to support hospitals, school systems, assisted living facilities and more.

The company is looking to hire between 30-40 new employees to fill six unique shifts (including nights and weekends) to accomodate just about any schedule. Positions include assember (air filters), assembler (water filters), pleater (air filters), picker (shipping) and packer (shipping).

While certain aspects of the positions will differ, overall, the following requirements are generally the same. Individuals will need to have strong attention to detail, good hand-eye coordination, ability to follow verbal and written instructions and a willingness to perform repetitive tasks while standing for long periods of time.

Hours/pay/benefits/temporary or permanent: They have 6 different shifts, so the hours will vary depending on what shift the individual can work. The pay is $11.50-$12 an hour, but there is a shift differential up to $3.00 an hour for certain shifts. The positions are temporary, but if the individual is interested in full-time employment, they will consider them for a temporary-to-hire placement.

They are also going to start offering $1 an hour in surge pay for the season since this is normally the busiest time of year, not taking into account the COVID-19 situation.
