Delphi, Indiana: ISP call Liberty German a ‘hero' for capturing audio, photos of suspect

DELPHI, Ind. – Liberty German, one of the two teens murdered in Delphi last week, was called a hero by Indiana State Police for video she captured on her cell phone that officers believe will help them capture the suspect connected to the case.

On Wednesday, police released new audio from German’s phone hoping it could help the community and authorities identify the suspect.

The audio clip is the voice of a man saying “down the hill.” You can listen to the clip in the player below.

German, 14, and Abigail Williams, 13, were reported missing Feb. 13 after they were dropped off near the Monon High Bridge to go hiking. The next day two bodies were found by volunteers searching the area, and on Feb. 15 authorities positively identified the bodies as German and Williams.

Not only did German capture video, state police said the suspect photo released Feb. 15 was also taken from her cell phone.

“That young lady is a hero, that is no doubt,” said ISP Sgt. Tony Slocom. “To have enough presence of mind to activate the video system on her cell phone to record what we believe is criminal behavior is about to occur, there is no doubt in our mind that she is a hero.”

ISP officers said the audio clip may or may not be associated with the suspect pictured in the photo, as there could be more than one person involved.

If you recognize the voice in the audio clip or the suspect in the photo, call the tip line at 1-844-459-5786 or email:
