DELPHI, Ind. – The man photographed walking on a trail near the Monon High Bridge, the last place teens Abigail Williams and Liberty German were seen, is now considered the main suspect in the case officials with Indiana State Police said.
On Feb. 15, police released a photo of a person seen on the Delphi Historic Trail. It depicts a white man wearing blue jeans, a blue coat/jacket, and a hoodie.
Initially, the man was someone police wanted to speak with to gain information on the investigation, but now he is being called a suspect by authorities.
Indiana State Police said Saturday, "During the course of the investigation, preliminary evidence has led investigators to believe the person, in the distributed photo, is suspected of having participated in the murders of Abigail Williams and Liberty German."
Sgt. Tony Slocum said the person pictured is “our suspect we are considering at this time" and police would like to arrest him.
Those in Carroll County believe narrowing down the search for a suspect helps to give the case momentum.
"It's nice to know that they're actually getting somewhere," said Joshua Flora. "Rather than throwing it out there, now they're saying he's a suspect. We really need to figure out who he is. It shows good progress I think."
The teens’ bodies were found Tuesday and were positively identified Wednesday. Law enforcement said they are investigating the case as a double homicide.
On Feb. 16 a search warrant was issued for a home on West Bicycle Bridge in Delphi as part of the investigation, but police said no one at the home is considered a suspect in the murder.
