INDIANAPOLIS -- A man has died after his van plunged into a retention pond on the city's west side.
It happened at the Mariner's Village Apartments around 9:30 p.m.
A 17-year-old girl was able to get out of the van on her own, but the 18-year-old driver never resurfaced.
A dive team found his body, but at that point he had been in the water for about 40 minutes.
He later died at the hospital..
Investigators have not said how the van ended up in the pond.

Emergency crews were called to the city's west side Saturday night for a water rescue.
Officials with the Wayne Township Fire Department say a car went into a pond at Mariner's Village Apartments around 9:30 p.m.
It was originally thought that there were three people in the car, but authorities later said there were only two.
A woman was able to get out on her own.
Divers rescued a man who'd been in the water for about 40 minutes. He was unconscious.
Both were taken to the hospital.

Firefighters say several bystanders tried to rescue the man in water before the help arrived.
No word yet about how the car ended up in the pond.
