HANCOCK CO., Ind. -- Fifteen women at the Hancock County Jail have tested positive for methamphetamine and narcotics after an inmate smuggled drugs into the facility, according to jail officials.

Authorities say Kayla Lloyd-Spittle, 30, of Indianapolis admitted to smuggling pills and distributing them to her fellow inmates.

Lloyd-Spittle was booked into the jail on Aug. 10 after pleading guilty to several drug-related charges, records show.

She was searched and no drugs were found at the time.

Later that day, an inmate reported suspicious activity to jail officers. She said her fellow inmates were using drugs that they got from Lloyd-Spittle.

The 15 women who tested positive for drugs have been placed on lockdown and are prohibited from visiting the larger common area for 23 hours a day for 30 days. Visitation also will be limited, officials said.

Currently Lloyd-Spittle is the only inmate facing possible criminal charges.

"She was stripped searched which entails same-sex staff person physically watches them remove their clothing, we check their clothing up to including we have them cough, squat and cough to make sure and all that process was followed and it still made it in,” said Capt. Andy Craig.

Officials say the jail is routinely searched by a drug-sniffing police dog to prevent inmates from keeping drugs in their cells.
