INDIANAPOLIS -- A 15-year-old boy is behind bars this week – accused in a one-man crime spree that targeted multiple cellphone stores.
Khalid Howard faces 29 felony counts in adult court, including armed robbery, attempted armed robbery, pointing a firearm, criminal confinement and intimidation. Between February 2 and February 19, prosecutors allege Howard robbed seven cellphone stores.
During at least one robbery, police alleged Howard told a store employee to "put the money in the bag if you don't want to die."
Musa Gray, who owns the Metro PCS store on East 38th Street, says he's come to expect those sorts of threats.
"They know if they steal 100 phones from me that they are going to sell 100 phones in a day," Gray said. "They aren't gonna have any problem getting rid of them."
Howard was arrested outside a Keystone Wireless store on February 24. He wasn't robbing it, but was picked up when the owner of the store called police about a dispute.
Howard was being held Wednesday night on a $100,000 bond.
