17-year-old arrested in murder of Indy man

INDIANAPOLIS -- A 17-year-old has been arrested in connection with the murder of an Indianapolis man last month. 

Members of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department Gang United arrested Brian Wellington late Tuesday night in the 4700 block of Kingsmead Place for his alleged involvement in the murder of Benjamin Lynch. 

A warrant for murder and carrying a handgun without a license was issued for Wellington last Friday, according to a press release from IMPD. 

Lynch was shot and killed November 29.

The shooting happened shortly before 2:30 p.m. in the 4100 block of Edgemere Court. Lynch was transported to Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition. He died during surgery.

When detectives arrived at the scene, they were told Lynch was talking with two men outside the home prior to the shooting. The men then fought and the victim was shot several times, according to IMPD.
