INDIANAPOLIS -- Two people were hurt in an explosion and fire in a condo on Indianapolis' south side Monday morning.

Indianapolis Fire Department officials said 12 units were first dispatched just after midnight to a fire on the 7300 block of Creekbrook Drive.

One of the people in the condo smelled gas in her third floor condo around 1 p.m. Sunday. She called maintenance, who turned off the furnace. The maintenance workers planned on calling for a repair Monday morning.

She and her girlfriend went to bed and were asleep for several hours when the fire broke out. The fire blew out the windows in the basement, and injured a man living in that condo.

The man was taken to Eskenazi Health in serious, but stable, condition. The woman's girlfriend was taken to Eskenazi in good condition.
