INDIANAPOLIS -- Police have arrested an Indianapolis man in connection with a shooting Tuesday afternoon that left two people injured.

IMPD officers were dispatched to the Clark gas station on the 2900 block of East 38th Street just after 2 p.m. Tuesday. They arrived to find numerous shell casings, but no victims.

Additional calls then came in of persons shot nearby. Police located a male victim, 31-year-old Lavon Beverly, who had been shot at a bus stop at 38th and Rural streets.

Police also found a female victim near 34th Street and Sherman Drive, and thought she had been shot. Wednesday morning, police clarified she was hit by flying debris, and hadn't been shot. She had no direct involvement in the incident.

Police arrested Trevell Patton, 21, saying he shot Beverly after an argument. Detectives are also looking for a person of interest who left in a black Chevy Impala.

Patton was preliminarily charged with aggravated battery.

Both victims were taken by ambulance to Eskenazi Hospital for treatment.

While en route, one of the ambulances was involved in a crash on the 2100 block of Keystone Avenue. That victim was then put on another ambulance.
